Imphal, August 25 2015:
Local residents of Sangaiprou in Imphal West on Tuesday stormed the Sangaiprou FCI Godown to drive back non-locals from the area.
Sangaiprou FCI Depot manager Moirangthem Yaima assured the protesters that non-labourers living inside the godown complex will be vacated by August 31 .
Earlier, a public meeting was held at LLYC building.
It was attended by representatives of Mayai Koibi Development Association, Pakhangba Cultural Club, Thounaojam Leikai Development Association, Lukram Leirak Youth Club, Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai Women Welfare Association and Tera Lukram Leikai Meira Paibi.
Lukram Leirak Youth Club president Mayengbam Dorendro said the meet was held to discuss the forced closure of FCI and FCS Godown by various local bodies of the area in support of the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) .
It decided that the FCI authority should vacate all on-locals at the FCI Godown by August 31 or else the concerned authority should be held responsible for any untoward incident.
The meet decided to allow re-opening of the godown from August 26, Wednesday taking into account problem of the daily wage earners, Dorendro said.
But it decided that the godown will be forced to shut down again if the proposed ILPS Bill is not tabled in the Assembly by the Government at the earliest possible time, he added.
