All Manipur National Health Mission Employees Welfare Association (AMNEWA) and all the 2,265 NHM staff of Manipur have endorsed the Nationwide general strike called by All India NHM Karamchari Sangh on October 25.A press release issued by general secretary of NHM Manipur conveyed that the All India NHM Karamchari Sangh had submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister highlighting their grievances but not a single step has been initiated to redress the demands of the union.
It stated that the union has demanded social and financial security to all NHM contractual employees, It also demanded the Government to immediately halt the contract system and to absorb those on contract in NHM or make new appointments.
Stating that many employees have been disengaged in different States on flimsy grounds, the memorandum further demanded reinstatement of disengaged NHM employees at the earliest.
All India NHM Karamchari Sangh conducted a National level meeting on September 23 at New Delhi, regarding the matter, in which representatives from all the States participated, the statement conveyed.
The union had also appealed the Prime Minister's office to grant appointment to the delegation of representatives of these employees for discussing their demands on February 1.However, neither appointment nor a positive response has been given by the authorities concerned, it added.
Following the 'ignorance' of the authorities concerned, the All India NHM Karamchari Sangh decided to hold the one day general strike.
