DC hands over financial aid to families of natural disaster

District Administration, Chandel on Monday handed over financial assistance to the relatives of victims of the recent natural disasters in a simple function held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chandel.
In the presence of Chandel A/C MLA ST Nunghlung Victor, DC Chandel Robert Singh Kshetrimayum handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh each to the next-of-kin of 9 villagers of Joumol Village who were buried alive in the recent landslide and one flood victim of Chakpikarong village as a ex-gratia under National Disaster Relief Fund.
Relief materials provided by MCS Officers' Association including mosquito nets, mats and packaged water bottles were also handed over to the victims' family members.
The financial assistance and relief materials for Joumol landslide victims were received by relatives of Semson Baite, Semlet Baite, Jangginlal Baite, Nengneichong Khongsai, Thangkholal Khongsai, Hoineilhing Haokip, Nengjoujam Haokip, Paojamang Haokip and Holmang Guite.
While Nl Khungthung received the assistance for her husband (L) Sp Kono who was washed away by the Chakpi River in Chakpikarong on August 2 last.
Before handing over the relief materials, a one-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect for the departed souls.
During the function, a copy of condolence message from the President of India was also handed over to the relatives.
Chief of Joumol Village Tonglenlal; Chandel ADC S Sambhunath Singh and Sub-Divisional Officers of the District also attended the distribution programme.
Speaking on the sidelines of the distribution function, Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, DC Chandel recalled the tragic natural disaster which hit the District in first week of August this year in which 9 villagers of Joumol were killed and the incident in which a villager of Chakpikarong was swept away by a flash flood.
"To ease the burden of the victims' family members, the government is providing some financial assistance as ex-gratia," he said.
The DC said the district administration shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved families and will continue to extend assistance to them.
While praying for the departed souls, the DC assured to construct houses for the victims' family members under Special package of IAY Scheme.
