Imphal, July 23 2022:
Different associations
of passenger bus services have
claimed that flaws in the policies of the state transport
department are affecting the
passenger bus services in the
state and they would be submitting a memorandum in this
regard to chief minister N Biren and transport department
on Monday.
The issue was discussed in
a joint meeting of different
passenger bus organisations
including Burma-Sugnu Road
Bus Owners' Union, Joint Tiddim Bus Owners' Association,
Mayang Imphal Transport,
Northern Transport Association Senapati, United Bus
Owners' Welfare Association
and Ukhrul Bus Association
held at Churachandpur bus
parking, Keishampat on Saturday.
A joint action committee of bus owners was
also formed at the meeting
which resolved to submit a
memorandum to the CM and
the transport department to
air their grievances and seek
solutions.
Interacting with the media
after the meeting, United Bus
Owners' Welfare Association
secretary B Dhanabir said
that bus owners are facing
difficulties in getting fitness,
pollution and other relevant
certificates from the department.
They have to get fresh
pollution certificate every day
on payment of Rs 50 and it
is a cumbersome task to get
such certificate on daily basis.
Besides, they are facing difficulties in renewing permit,
changing route permit and
paying taxes.
As they could
not get relevant documents
in time from the department,
several bus owners are unable
to process insurance claim,
which is required to file within
a stipulated time, he said.
He then drew attention of
the chief minister and officials
concerned of the transport
department for disallowing
parking of unauthorised vehicles in the pick-up and drop
zones for passenger buses.
