Ukhrul ADC distributes food to destitute children

Ukhrul, April 23 2020:
COVID-19 Chairman's Relief Fund of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council today distributed relief food items to nine destitute home of Ukhrul and to the casual sanitary workers and fourth-grade staffs of District Council, Ukhrul for ensuring available of foodgrains during the Nationwide lockdown period.
CEO, Ukhrul Polly Makan, who moderated the function, expressed that relief fund was established to provide basic needs to every economical backward family in time of emergency.
She said that all the Councillors of Ukhrul district have generously donated their one month salary for the relief fund.
CEO also mentioned that relief management committee is instituted for transparent implementation of this project.
Meanwhile, the UADC chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung, who is also a convener of COVID-19 CRF committee, Ukhrul sought the support and co-operation from every walk of life to partake in this humanitarian services while in combating the highly contiguous disease in the district.
Dr Yaronsho also slammed the State Government for sidelining and not utilizing the District Council in the grassroots level.
He went on to mention that the District Council can perform better if work together with the State Government.
Dr Yaronsho also urged the farmers of Ukhrul district to work hard to increase their agricultural produces, saying that negligence during plantation season might simply lead to a shortfall of foodgrains in the coming years.
The Chairman also expressed gratitude to the villagers of Sirarakhong, Lamlang Leisan Tung for donating vegetables for free distribution in town during the lockdown.
He further appealed the staff of Ukhrul ADC to donate their one day salary in COVID-19 CRF in the wider interest of the general public.
Later, the Chairman distributed rice, potatoes, salt, vegetables in the presence of Ukhrul ADC Vice Chairman M Isaac, EMs, Councillors, officers and staffs at Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
