Manipur Shangai Festival to begin today, foreign exhibitors to take part

The Manipur Shangai Festival which is celebrated every year to boost and promote the tourism of the state will be held this year again, starting from November 21.The festival will also see foreign exhibitors, said KK Chhetri, Tourism Commissioner.
Addressing media persons at a press conference held at Hotel Imphal today, K K Chhetri said that the festival which will commence from November 21 will highlight various events at various places.
The festival will be held till the 30th of this month.
Various exhibitors from Thailand, Myanmar and Korea etc will also be participating in the festival and display their various products.
These foreign participants will also take part in the X-Games and speed Climbing competitions, he said.
He further went on to say that the formal inaugural function of the Manipur Sangai Festival will be held at Hapta kangjeibung, Palace Compound with various cultural programmes.
The opening function will be marked by a cultural ensemble depicting the rich culture of Manipur which is composed by W Lokendrajit.
On the second day of the festival a cultural programme will be held at BOAT which would include, folk song, dhon dhollok, Qawalli, classical dance presentation and experimental composite art.
Indegenous games including Mukna and Yubi Lakpi will also be on display on the third day of the festival at Mapal Kangjeibung, he added.
He further went on to say that there will also be District Day's in the course of the festival where different cultural programmes of different districts will be presented.
November 24, the will be christened as Tamenglong District day where all varieties of programmes related with Tamenglong will be presented.
Likewise November 26 will be for Chandel and 27 for Ukhrul Day.
On November 28th, Indegenous games including Arambai and Sagol kangjei will be presented.
There will also be special packages for Adventure and Eco Tourism.
An Expedition team will be leaving for Mount Iso and Zuko Valley which are under Senapati district.
There will be Rock Climbing presentation at the Lamdan adventure and Leadership Park on November 22nd.From November 23 to 30 there will be Paragliding event at Koirengai old Airfield, he said.
He also said that tourism is the future of Manipur.
