Play based on Mirabai Chanu premieres

Imphal, September 19 2021:
"Mei Iklaba Thamoi", a Shumang Leela play based on the life of Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu was presented at Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound on Sunday.
The premiere show of the play presented by Production Committee was attended by Education minister Sorokhaibam Rajen as president and IPR minister Thongam Biswajit as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Biswajit acknowledged that sports play an important role in ensuring a healthy society, including helping to deter youth from abusing drugs and other substances.
As such, more development and promotion of sports is the need of the hour, he asserted.
"Success and failure is part of life, but hard work, strong will power and determination guarantee success, as has been shown by Olympian Mirabai Chanu.
The BJP government under PM Modi along with the state government has been encouraging sportspersons while keeping all political agendas aside.
The state government has already provided jobs to all of the Olympians," he added.
The plot of "Mei Iklaba Thamoi" has been written by renowned Shumang Leela writer Ranjit Ningthouja and directed by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Sougrakpam Hemanta.
The casts include Thongram Heramoti (playing the role of Saikhom Mirabai) and Sorokhaibam Robindro alias Langthabal Robindro (playing the roles of Mirabai's mother) .
