Ukhrul, October 18 2011:
In the backdrop of Okram Ibobi Singh government's steadfast decision to hold the by-poll to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) in each constituency in Ukhrul and Senapati, the beleaguered Naga organizations are camping in poll areas to sensitise the electorates on Naga's rights.
The UNC-led Naga groups including Naga People's Organisation (NPO) and Poumai Naga Union (PNU) have on Tuesday held camp with the Naga public at Phaibung in Senapati, which along with Chingai constituency in Ukhrul will go to polls on October 24 .
In a telephonic talk with this reporter, the UNC said the meeting at Phaibung was "to sensitise the public on the Naga people's decision" on the controversial Manipur Hills Autonomous District Act, 2008 .
On Wednesday, the Naga organisations will be visiting Chingai constituency and hold meeting with the Naga public on the same issue.
The Tangkhul organizations including TNL, TSL, TMNL and TKS will also be attending the meet on ADC by-poll.
The apex Naga body stated, "The Naga's decision on the ADC have been made clear time and again.
Whoever wishes to participate in the forthcoming by-poll should do so at their own risk." In the wake of strong opposition to the ADC elections by the Naga bodies, the state government has declared Phaibung and Chingai as hyper-sensitive areas.
In last year's polls, the two constituencies along with eight others were countermanded as there was no voter turnout.
The other eight ADC seats including seven in Senapati and one in Ukhrul have been declared elected unopposed on October 3 last.
