Imphal, February 18 2019:
Taking strong exception to BJP president Amit Shah's statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will bring back CAB, 2016 if BJP returns to power at the Centre, MPP and CPI Manipur State Council have decried that the statement of the BJP leader indicates that BJP has no respect at all for the sentiments of the people of the North East including Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at their Mapan Kangjeibung office today, MPP president Y Jugindro pointed out that BJP Government did not table the CAB 2016 in the interim Budget session of Rajya Sabha only because they realized that they would not get majority votes on the Bill in the Upper House of the Parliament.
Jugindro asserted that BJP has failed to acknowledge the sentiments of the people of Manipur and the North East region and is paying no heed to the voice of the region regarding CAB 2016 as BJP president Amit Shah has categorically stated that the party will bring back the same Bill if BJP Government is reinstated at the Centre.
Expressing strong disapproval of Amit Shah's statement, Jugindro said that MPP will take a leading role in rooting out the BJP Governments in the State and the Centre.
While informing that MPP will be fielding a candidate each in both the Parliamentary Constituencies in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, he also sought people's support for the MPP candidates.
Strongly condemning the BJP Government's act of arresting MSAD advisor Thokchom Veewon and detaining former ISTV journalist Kishorchandra Wangkhem, the MPP president asserted that the BJP led Government has been arresting all those people who dare to speak against the Government.
This amounts to curtailing the freedom of speech and expression of the people and press and it is tantamount to dismantling the very essence of democracy which is indeed a serious threat to the whole society, he added.
