Imphal, October 17 2009:
The people of Kasom Khullen are risking their life while venturing out of their village as a place called 'Nungshit hanbi' on the village passage menaced the passers through its horrendous condition.
A large rock, which can collapse anytime, is hanging over the steep upper side of the Kasom Khullen-Yairipok road.
Since the wind that passes through the alleyway could not penetrate due to the presence of the high hill, the wind bounces back which keep the life of the passersby at peril.
The stones which fall from the steep hills often filled the road.
This has inconvenienced many travelers.
The name of the place has also come to known as 'nungshit hanbi'.
As such, the passengers have to cross the place by walking.
Down the road, the hill slope has been packed by stones falling from the upper side of the road.
The bottom of the gorge could not be gauged.
A number of vehicles have passed through the road daily.
The risk factor is that the rock that hangs on the steep hills could fall anytime and the vehicles and the passengers could skid down the gorge.
According to locals, several vehicles have fallen into the gorge.
Once it plunges down, the question of surviving is unimaginable.
The BRTF has, on many occasions, tried to explode the rocks above the road, but miserably failed in their attempts.
