Imphal, May 17 2023:
Raising suspicion of attempts to divide Manipur under the excuse of communal violence, Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) pres-ident Thokchom Sonamani has stated that MUSU is ready to fight to protect the integrity and unity of the state till the last breath.
Addressing a press meet held at MUSU office on Monday, Sonamani extend-ed deepest condolences to all those who have lost their lives and houses due to the ethnic violence which began from May 3.He then said that the Union will extend all possible help to restore peace and nor-malcy among all communities of the state.
Sonamani continued that the violence should be con-sidered as an incident within a family, a temporary quarrel between the citizens residing in the state.
But it should not be stretched out to executing selfish interests including de-mands for separate homeland or administration.
Stating that the ethnic vi-olence between two peaceful communities of the state oc-curred due to delayed action on part of the central and state governments, he urged the government authorities to solve the issue at the earliest and restore peace and nor-malcy in the state.
However, he cautioned against disinte-gration of the state as part of the solution, adding that this would only fuel the flames and lead to spread of more violence in all areas of the state.
Sonamani then strongly condemned the actions of some CSOs and elected rep-resentatives who are trying to divide the state, while the flames of the violence are still burning.
