Imphal, December 16 2014:
The State Cabinet in its meeting today has resolved to establish two new Universities in the state.
The meeting also decided to table the Bill for establishing the two universities in the forthcoming Winter Session of State Assembly.
Of the two, the first one will be established in Churachandpur as the first private University in the state, and will be named after the state animal 'Sangai', and the other is the Dhanamanjuri University.
This was stated by Government Spokesperson and Education Minister M Okendro following the Cabinet Meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
In an academic year, 7500 to 8500 students graduated from different colleges in Manipur, but as seats for PG is limited in Manipur University and the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, only a few of them could be accommodated.
This means that about 60-70 percent of them were either migrated to other states for further studies or dropped out.
These two universities are to be established under RUSA, which plans to establish a total of 200 Universities in India, and the HRD Ministry has agreed to sanction Rs 55 crore for the project.
Under this University, DM College of Arts, Science, Commerce, Teacher's Education, Hindi Training Institute, GP Women College and LMS Law College will be affiliated.
The idea for establishing these universities is to make Manipur an education hub and also reduce the number of students who go to other states for higher studies.
The spokesperson further stated that the Cabinet Meeting agreed to fill up vacancies for seven Sanskrit teachers, and 92 Staff Nurse for 26 PHCs on contract basis.
Preference will be given to local people for Staff Nurse and will be selected specifically for PHCs.
The 50-bedded Hospitals in Moreh, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul will be upgraded to 100-bedded Hospitals, and lastly, the Manipur Protection of Interest of Depositors Bill 2014 will also be tabled in the House in the Winter Sessions, added the Spokesperson.
