Political parties urge ECI to held Assembly election at one go

Imphal, December 14 2011:
A team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) led by Chief Election Commissioner, Dr S Qureshi arrived in Imphal today for a two-day visit to the state in connection with the forthcoming Assembly elections which is tentatively scheduled for February 2012 .
Immediately on reaching Imphal, the ECI team had a meeting with the leaders of different political parties, DCs, SPs and discussed minutely on the coming Assembly Election, at Secretariat, South Block.
Addressing media persons, after the meeting, Dr S Qureshi stated that cameras would be installed in certain remote areas of Manipur for the purpose of live broadcasting of polling in the forthcoming polls to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly due next February, micro observer will be appointed at sensitive areas, particularly in the hill districts of Manipur and that central forces will be deployed to enable electors to cast their votes freely.
He further said that all the political parties have suggested conducting the Assembly Election at one go in view of the possibility of double voting.
The political parties also apprised him on the present situation of the State and indicated of possible proxy voting.
There were also suggestions for installation of cameras in every polling booth, he revealed.
Polling stations will be classified as normal, sensitive, hyper-sensitive.
Apart from this, the ECI has will be monitoring the percentage of voting in a particular booth and would especially keep a close watch on those booths which either recorded very high percentage or very low voters turnout, stated the Chief Election Commissioner.
Replying to a query, Dr S Qureshi revealed that the ECI is aware of the Thoubal Moijing of December 11, in which Congress workers disrupted a BJP meeting.
Stating that the act of disrupting a political conference of a particular political party by another party is unlawful, the ECI, Chief Commissioner expressed its inability to take any action as the election code of conduct has not come into effect at the moment.
