Imphal, October 13 2011:
Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has demanded implementation of pay scale, pay band and grade pay of the teachers in accordance to Central norms and warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations in the event of the State Government failing to meet the demand.
Issuing a statement in this connection, Convenor (Publicity) of COTA S Gunamani Singh recalled that after two round of meetings held on May 19, 2010 and March 3, 2011, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed with the State Government to the effect of issuing an official order in connection with implementing 6th Central Revised Pay scale to the teachers as well.
However, the order of the Government has not yet been accepted by the teachers on the ground that it has many clauses which may affect their service career.
There is mention of pre-revised pay scale, inclusion of teachers under First Schedule Part-A like other Government employees so as to allow adjustment of grade scale, apart from the fact that the said order has only assured academic grade pay allowance instead of the normal grade pay, Gunamani, pointed out.
Since the Government has not made necessary rectifications even after 7 months of issuing the order, a general body meeting of COTA has been convened at CC Higher Secondary School tomorrow to finalise the next course of action to be taken up like launching intense agitations including cease work strike and boycott of the upcoming 10th Assembly election, Gunamani, announced.
