Imphal, August 11 2017:
Some sections have raised questions regarding the extension of the service terms of doctors in the State from August of 2015 and the steps being taken up to further extend the service term this month and have urged the State Government as well as the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
According to a source, there is suspicion that the Cabinet is planning to extend the service term of doctors from 62 years to 65 years this month similar to when the term was extended by two years, from 60 to 62 years, in the year 2015 .
It further urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and expressed belief that appropriate steps would be taken up to prevent unethical practices when it comes to Government services.
It pointed out that if the plan to increase the service term of doctors is being taken up with the aim of making up for the shortage of doctors in the State, then there is no harm in recruiting new doctors and added that many deserving individuals would be robbed of their opportunities for the sake of benefits for a few if the step to increase the service term is implemented and urged the State Government to take up necessary steps to prevent service term extension for only a select few Grade I and Grade II doctors who are about to retire.
The source also urged the State Government to make sure the doctors follow proper protocol including right to take part in administrative functions till the age of 62 and assigning the remaining three years of service as consultants in medical colleges.
It also warned that if the doctors are given service extension then the staff of other Departments would also begin to demand extension of their service terms as well and further urged the authority concerned to take up appropriate measures to prevent corruption and unethical practices in the Health Services of the State.
