Imphal, November 08 2021:
SP Imphal West Dr S Ibomcha said that the court has to decide whether the charges levelled against the three suspects arrested in connection with the October 12 incident of B Gamnom village are true or not.
Addressing a press conference at his office here on Monday, Dr Ibomcha said that a joint team of Imphal West Commando and 15 Assam Rifles arrested three cadres of the proscribed KNF (N) in relation with the incident, in which three civilians including the village chief were killed and two others injured.
During interrogation, the trio gave their statements admitting direct involvement in the indiscriminate firing at B Gamnom village.
On November 4, one Kakai Singshit claimed in the media that all the three arrested people are civilians.
Later, on Monday, police came across a media report in which Kangpokpi area CSOs gave a deadline for releasing the arrested trio, the police officer said.
Expressing concern over the public demand and claims, the SP said that court remanded the three to judicial custody in relation with a case taken up by Patsoi police station.
Later, Imphal East district police made formal arrest and the court granted judicial remand based on reports submitted by the 10, he pointed out, while adding that public should think of honouring the judgment of the law court.
Moreover, Kakai Singshit also made a claim that one of the three arrested people had stayed in a rehabilitation centre for about four months while producing documentary evidences.
However, police have started investigation to verify as they are suspicious of the documents Kakai produced.
Appropriate legal actions will be taken up against those involved if the documents were found to be forged, he said.
The SP further said that the district police is taking up all necessary steps to deliver justice to the victims of the October 12 incident and it is unfortunate for some people to make attempt to mislead the public and derail the investigation.
He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in ensuring justice to the victims and punishment of the culprits for their crime.
