Minister urges farmers to focus more on organic farming

Loumee Shinmee Apunba Lup (LOUSAL), under the sponsorship of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) carried out a poster campaign, hoarding and street corner meeting & publicity on organic farming at Lainingthou Puthiba, Khurai today.
The campaign was launched under consumer awareness of MOVCDNER in which Forest & Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar graced the function as the chief guest while LOUSAL president Mutum Churamani attended as functional president and Horticulture & SC Commissioner M Harekrishna, Agriculture, MAHUD Commissioner M Joy, MOMA Project Director K Debadutta Sharma and Henry Martyn Institute Hyderabad Associate Director Praxis Ramesh Prakashvelu as guests of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Forest Minister Th Shyamkumar stated that the campaign aims to raise awareness about organic farming while urging the farmers to prohibit the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, which are harmful to health, to increase productivity.
Consuming vegetables or food which are grown from the frequent use of fertilisers and pesticides can affect the health, the Minister noted.
Urging the farmers to opt for more organic way of farming and to increase more organic produces, the campaign will not be successful by the department alone.
He appealed to all the farmers to visit the department/office concerned for any queries.
