Jiribam, November 07 2019:
At least
five shops were gutted in a
devastating fire last night at
Lalpani bazar (Jiribam) located
around 6 kms away
from the zero point of Jiribam
towards the southern site.
According to report
culled from the site, the fire
broke out at around 10 pm
and it is suspected that the
fire might have started from
a tea stall.
Altogether 5 shops were
completely destroyed by the
fire along with the items inside
them.
Speaking to media persons,
Lalpani Bazar
Committee secretary Md
Jamal Hussain said the fire
broke out at around 10 pm
and immediately, the locals
informed Jiribam Fire Service
Department.
However, he lamented
that the fire tenders arrived
late and as such, the shops
were lost.
He appealed to the
authority concerned to take
up fast action when such
devastating fire breaks out in
the future.
He said that three fire tenders
took 3 hours to put out
the fire to prevent it from
spreading further.
Though the exact loss in
the fire has not yet been calculated,
the loss is estimated
to run into lakhs, he added.
