As a part of weeklong Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) observation, Janaushadhi Diwas was observed at Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra at Eastern Pharma Division, Chingmeirong, here, today.
To create awareness about Janaushadhi, 'Janaushadhi Week' was celebrated across the Nation under the theme "Janaushadhi - Seva bhi, Rozgar bhi" from March 1 to March 7 and the last day was celebrated as 'Janaushadhi Diwas'.
Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra at Eastern Pharma Division, Chingmeirong also conducted a health camp, cycle rally among others as a part of the observation from March 1 to 6 .
Speaking as the chief guest of the event, Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan urged the Eastern Pharma Division to open more centres to make generic medicines available to the people of the State at an affordable price.
Generic drugs which are available at cheaper rates are safe, effective and have the same components as the brand-name drugs, the MP added.
Sinam Rajendra Singh, National vice president of Bharat Vikas Parishad said that people of the State should cultivate work culture as the Prime Minister is taking keen interest in the North Eastern States.
Instead of relying on imported products, people of the State should produce goods with the tag Make in Manipur, he said and appealed to the people to buy medicines at affordable rates available from Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendra.
It may be mentioned that Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) endeavours to provide quality medicines at an affordable price.
The number of stores under the scheme has grown to 7499 .
Sales in the financial year 2020-21 (up to 4th March 2021) led to total savings of approximately Rs 3600 Crore for common citizens, as these medicines are cheaper by 50% to 90% than the corresponding market rates.
The function was attended by Dr L Gojendro, CMO Bishnupur, Shri H Devendra, Programme Executive, AIR, distinguished guest, beneficiaries of PMBJP and staff of Eastern Pharma.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today, interacted with the beneficiaries of PMBJP through video conferencing and inaugurated India's 7,500th Janaushadhi Kendra at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.
