Imphal, November 06 2018:
Zeliangrong Civil Organisations has strongly condemned the barbaric and inhumane torture and killing of two civilians, namely Chungniang alias Lucky Pamai of Jalukie (Peren district, Nagaland) and Chaginchung Kamei of Ramgaizang village (Cachar, Assam) by a mob mostly comprising of illegal immigrants on November 3 at Harinagar, Lakhipur, Assam, with the alleged participation of security forces.
A press release issued by the media and publicity cell of ZCOs today mentioned that the two individuals were passing through Harinagar, without knowing that the Bengali people were enforcing a bandh called by the All Bengali Youths Students' Federation in protest against the killing of five farmers at Tinsukia by a suspected Assam based militant group.
It claimed that the security forces who came to Harinagar village to rescue the two individuals, instead joined in beating and kicking the two helpless civilians and added that two precious lives could have been saved that day if the security personnel had admitted them to the hospitals at Joypur or any nearby towns which are near to Harinagar.
ZCOs alleged that so far, the Assam Government and the Central Government have failed to take up any positive steps like arresting the culprits involved and added that such irresponsible act of the Government is akin to encouraging the mob to commit murder.
Warning the Governments concerned against remaining silent towards the killing of the two individuals belonging to the Zeliangrong community, ZCOs reasoned that failure of the Assam and Central Government to take up strong actions against the culprits will act as testament to the intention of both the Assam and Central Government in denying justice when the issue is related to the tribal people.
Demanding the Central Government to institute a judicial enquiry into how the security personnel were involved and participated with the mob in killing the two civilians, ZCOs conveyed that it will continue to take up various forms of democratic actions till justice is delivered.
On the other hand, the Zeliangrong Civil Organisations also extended sympathies to the bereaved family members of the two deceased and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.
