Imphal, October 06 2016:
BJP Manipur Pradesh today took out a protest rally against the alleged partial attitude of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker in dealing with different disqualification cases.
The rally led by BJP State election management committee convenor Th Chaoba, MLA Joykishan, MLA Bishwajit and BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Asnikumar was flagged off from Khagempalli Huiarom Leikai at 11 am.
As the BJP leaders and supporters marched towards Raj Bhavan, they were blocked by police at Keishampat junction.
Nonetheless, Chaoba, Joykishan and Bishwajit were allowed to proceed and they submitted a memorandum to the Governor through her secretary.
Briefing media persons after coming out from the Raj Bhavan, Th Chaoba said that they would soon call on the Governor although they could not meet the Governor today.
All the States of India encounter disqualification cases and none of these cases are delayed for more than six months.
But in Manipur, many disqualification cases were kept frozen for more than two years and a half.
Yet, certain disqualification cases were disposed if it would benefit Congress party.
The entry of four Trinamool Congress MLAs into the fold of Congress party was not merger.
If it was merger, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress should have been dead, Chaoba said.
The memorandum submitted to the Governor today was seeking disposition of three disqualification cases which were still pending, Joykishan said.
BJP Manipur Pradesh is not criticising the Speaker's decision but people have been asking whether some MLAs should be disqualified or not.
Exuding confidence that the Speaker would initiate necessary actions shortly, Joykishan said that BJP Manipur Pradesh would launch agitation in case the Speaker still refuses to act on the pending disqualification cases.
