Kanggui, December 04 2013 :
An oil tanker met with an accident and fell into the river located on the road side while trying to a negotiate a huge pothole in the middle of National Highway No.2 between Changoubung and Kanggui at around 8:30 am today.
The ill-fated oil tanker bearing registration no.MN01-7900 was heading towards Imphal when the incident occurred, according to police source.
Fortunately, the driver and handyman sustained minor injuries and they were given medical aid at CHC, Kanggui with the help of Kanggui police.
The oil tanker was trying to avoid the huge pothole in the middle of the road when it fell down into the river, according to an eyewitness.
Mention may be made here that on October 25, an Alto Maruti-Suzuki Car met similar fate at the same spot causing serious injuries to an employee of DRDA, Senapati.
Despite the pathetic condition of the National Highway 2 which has come to pose serious threat on the lives of commuters, the State Govt as well as the concerned authority and other civil bodies of the district have remained mute spectators.
Interestingly, in today's incident, instead of lending helping hands to the vehicle operators, the local took advantage of the situation and were seen busy collecting leaking fuel from the oil tanker.
Some vehicle owners were also seen trying to buy the collected leaked fuel from those collecting it at a low price.
On learning about the unfortunate incident Kanggui Police led by its OC L.Vaiphei rushed in and turned both the parties away from the spot.
