Imphal, April 04 2017:
Hon'ble Governor of Manipur Dr.Najma Heptullah, flagged off Expedition (XPD) 2470 Roadtrip 2017, an all women team travelling 24 countries in 70 days covering 24,000 kms, in a function held at Sangai Conference Hall, Hotel Imphal, North AOC, today.
The team lead by Rtn.
Meenakshi Aravind, which was started from Coimbatore, wrapped up its Indian tour in Imphal, Manipur and will travel further from the State to reach its destination, London.
The flag off function was organised jointly by Rotary Club of Imphal and Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal (Rotary International District 3240) as part of the Rotary Literacy Campaign which was mainly taken up to spread awareness to eradicate illiteracy among girl child.
In her speech as Chief Guest of the function, Dr.Najma Heptullah said that Rotary Club has done a great humanitarian service apart from its discussions and meetings.
It is indeed amazing to learn that women Rotarians are travelling to 24 countries in 70 days to spread awareness to the people on girl education.
This campaign, to spread awareness to educate girl child, is very much related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme.
But one should be aware of what kind of education one should give to a girl child.
It is time to go out and explore the world to know the life of the people living in other parts of the world.
And we should also make the people know about our people.
We should be proud of our own culture and history and carry forward the ancient legacy.
We should be proud to be an Indian, she added.
