AR organises series of activities on World Cancer Day

With 'I am and I Will' as the theme of World Cancer Day this year, units of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a series of health related activities at various parts of Imphal yesterday.
Keithelmanbi Battalion organised a free medical and dental camp along with awareness lectures while Lilong Company Operating Base (COB), in its continued efforts to empower youth and promote health care, chose to implement the National Health Programme 'Kishori Shakti Yojana' at Darul Yatama Lilbanat School in Lilong.
As part of the camp, the school children were monitored for various growth abnormalities, nutritional deficiencies, skin diseases and dental hygiene, conveyed a statement of Assam Rifles.
The camp also included an interactive workshop on basic health care and first-aid by the Unit Medical Officer.
The workshop enlightened the people on means of administering first-aid, various health tips and personal health hygiene.
A first aid box equipped with all essential medicines and dressing material was presented to the school administration and free medicines and nutritional supplements were distributed to the needy.
As part of the camp, an interactive health awareness lecture was also organised by Singjamei COB of the Battalion at the Eastern Ideal School, Singjamei in which over 350 students, teachers and locals attended.
Meanwhile, Thoubal Bat talion organised a Cancer awareness campaign for the students and teachers of Elite Foundation Academy Kangleipak and Thoubal Leitanthem Kanhai Junior School.
As part of the campaign, the Battalion organised an interactive lecture, displayed posters and distributed pamphlets to enlighten the attendees about the causes and preventive measures for various types of Cancer.
On the other hand, Tulihal Battalion conducted a free medical and dental camp at Ishok village and over 450 people from in and around Ishok were rendered medical assistance including distribution of free medicines by the Unit Medical team under the Regimental Medical Officer.
Besides attending to routine medical problems, a dental checkup was also carried out by the medical team.
The series of activities conducted by the units of the Sector received overwhelming response from the local populace.
All the attendees expressed profound gratitude to the units for undertaking such a widespread initiative on the occasion of World Cancer Day and appreciated the continuous - efforts and commitments of Assam Rifles in reaching out to the local populace and reaffirming the faith of people in the Assam Rifles as "Friends of Manipur", added the statement.
