Imphal, August 03 2009:
MLA of Khurai Assembly Constituency, Dr Ng Bijoy today went to areas of Khurai-Lamlong, where many groups of people including women took to the streets to protest the killing of Chungkham Sanjit by Manipur police commandos in a 'fake encounter' at BT Road as the Tehelka news magazine has exposed, to show solidarity with the protestors and support the agitation.
He met the protestors at Lamlong bazar and told them that he supports the agitation.
He said, Chungkham Sanjit, who hailed from Khurai AC, was murdered in cold blood.
The fact that no encounter took place at BT road on that day has been made clear by the Tehelka report.
Those police commandos directly involved in the murder must to be punished, Dr Bijoy said.
The Opposition MLA further said that the trend of killing people by Manipur police commandos and giving them gallantry award is not acceptable.
It is high time the people of Manipur stopped this trend.
This trend has been going on for a long time now, therefore, it is very much necessary to find out the truth of the latest murder by instituting a judicial inquiry, Dr Bijoy said.
He also said, there have been reports that the bullet that killed the poor young woman was not of a pistol.
There cannot be a more brutal action than firing indiscriminately at a crowded market area killing a young pregnant woman and injuring five other persons.
A child in the womb of the young mother was also among those killed, he said and added that therefore, the public have the right to correct all these and it's time they did it.
He said, it was not the fault of the Chief Minister that he gave the report about the incident in the House.
It was the fault of the officials who had given him the report.
Since the Chief Minister, as also the leader of the House, was giving the report, it was thought that it must have been correct.
However, today the report appears to be wrong.
So, parliamentary action for giving a misleading report in the House that must be taken will probably be taken, Dr Bijoy hoped.
