Imphal, March 03 2023:
Citing their unmet demands, Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) locked the main gate and gheraoed the Imphal Head Post Office located at Babupara around noon today.
The gherao posed a big hindrance to people who visited the Imphal Head Post Office for work purposes.
The protest was launched by GDS of the Postal Department, Manipur Division from different parts of the State working under All India Gramin Dak Sevak Union (AIGDSU) Manipur Division, NE Circle.
Some of the demands made by the GDS include timely payment of Risk and Hardship allowance; payment of TRCA (Time Related Continuity Allowance) to the Level-II employees (GDS) of Head Office, Sub-Office and Branch Office of the State for the amount of work they put in per day; supply of sufficient stationery items and equipment to the employees and no excess workload, among others.
Speaking to media persons in this connection, Wahengbam Ibohalbi, president, AIGDSU, Manipur Division shared that a memorandum listing all the demands of the GDS had been submitted to the Chief Post Master General, North East Circle, Shillong.
He alleged that following this, an order was issued instructing the Director of Postal Service, Manipur Division to pay out the Risk and Hardship allowance to the GDS.
However, the Postal Service, Manipur Division has not acted on this order yet, he said.
Meanwhile, the GDS have reportedly suspended the gherao after receiving assurance from the Post Master General, North East-II Region, Dimapur to meet their demands, as per a statement issued by AIGDSU, Manipur Division, NE Circle.
This statement further instructed the GDS employees working under Postal Department, Manipur Division to return to work until an order is issued in this connection.
