Imphal, October 02 2022:
Chief minister N Biren has informed that he had instructed police department to take up legal actions against students, who were involved in excessive violent actions, during the recent protest at Manipur University and Imphal-Airport Road.
The CM also disclosed that the government is investigating possible link between student bodies, their movements and illegal organisations.
Any involvement with illegal groups and anti-national, anti-state activities will be detrimental to their future, he said, while adding that such records will be available with all the police stations.
The CM also urged the parents to rein in their children and stop them from involving in anti-social or violent activities.
Responding to media persons on the sidelines of National Cleanliness Day observance held at GM Hall here on Sunday, the CM acknowledged the importance of student bodies in the society as well as in educational institutions.
However, the government took the decision to defer the election of students' unions over certain reasonable grounds as the run-up to the elections started turning ugly with incidents of snatching nomination papers, threatening students using false identities and other violent activities.
However, the government is reviewing the situation and will conduct the election within a couple of days, he said.
While it is understandable for the students to protest against the deferment of election, it also cannot be ignored how some students manhandled and assaulted a couple along with a small kid.
The woman was holding her child when the students chased and assaulted her, he said, while terming it unacceptable.
Expressing concern that the society is heading towards an amorality one, he strongly condemned the incident and assured that appropriate actions will be taken up against the students involved in the incident.
Asking the students to pay their attention in their study and have trust on the policy makers, he said that the government always welcomes any suggestion from any section of the public.
However, it is not good to oppose any move or policy of the government irrespective of merit of the intended goal.
The government is in process of identifying such individuals and any bad remark on them will be reflected in the police verification of antecedents at the time of job recruitment, he warned.
