Three bridges, one community hall inaugurated

On a busy day of inauguration, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today dedicated three bridges, one community hall and one vocational training institute to the people in Imphal East and Bishnupur district.
In the morning, one RCC bridge constructed over Iril River at Chingarel under Khurai A/C and one vocational training institute, Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) set up within the DIC complex at Porompat in Imphal East District were inaugurated while later during the day, the Chief Minister went to Bishnupur district to inaugurate the newly constructed Saiton bridge, Kumbi bridge and Phaougakchao Community Hall.
Speaking on the occasion of the inaugurating the 7.50 metre wide and 60 metre long Chingarel Bridge which has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 637.12 lakhs by PWD with funding from Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) of the DoNER Ministry, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that connectivity is the backbone of development and the newly constructed bridge which connect important places like Phaknung, Kangla etc and would facilitate transportation of agricultural products especially vegetables and help the villagers in improving their economy.
He also expressed happiness over the fact that the construction of the bridge has been completed well ahead of its target and noted that the Government has to often face heavy burden when the target for completion of projects is delayed.
Maintaining that construction of new roads and bridges is needed to meet with the growing vehicular movement and other demands, Ibobi assured that proper compensation will be given to owners of houses and lands effected by such construction works.
On the need for maintaining the quality of any construction works, the Chief Minister noted that there have been instances where bridges collapsed due to lack of quality works even before completion or inauguration.
The government will ensure that such unfortunate incident does not occur in future, the CM assured and appealed to all local MLAs to render support in completing target-date projects as well as in maintenance of quality.
Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, who presided over the inaugural function, informed that construction of Chingarel Bridge was started from August, 2012 by Bridge Division of PWD setting August, 2014 as the target for its completion.
Today's inaugural function was also attended by Khurai MLA, Dr Ng Bijoy; Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah and PWD Chief Engineer W Loken were also present among several other officials.
