Kakching, October 29 2018:
Jana Neta Irabot Ningshing Lup Kakching has appealed the Government and authorities concerned to look into the deteriorating condition of the Kakching bridge near Irabot Park and repair the aged bridge at the earliest.
Saying that the bridge is in bad condition, the lup in a statement issued by its president Surjit Kshetrimayum today sought the attention of the Government and department concerned to take up appropriate measures to avoid unwanted accidents/incidents.
The said bridge has not been repaired since 1997, said the lup and added that concrete plates on the sides of the bridge and arms are broken in many places.
The bridge above the river Sengmai in the middle of Kakching bazar is vital for the locals as well as surrounding villages.
The bridge connects Kakching with Keirak, Wabagai, Kakching Khunou and others.
If the bridge goes on without proper maintenance, it won't survive long and major accidents are sure to happen, said the lup demanding prompt Government action by November 10."If the Government and department concerned fail to take up necessary steps by November 10, the lup will have no choice but to start repairing the bridge along with the people of Kakching," the statement said.
It also appealed 'Meeyam gi Chief Minister N Biren Singh' to visit Kakching and hear the grievances of its people.
