Imphal, June 27 2013:
Continuing with the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State, a large number of students under the aegis of Students' Wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) stormed the Assembly Complex at Chingmeirong from different directions today.
About 10 students were injured in baton charge and five students were detained by the police in connection with the agitation.
Students coming from Dingku Road were blocked by the police at Khongnang Ani Karak near Oil Pump along the Assembly Road.
The students tried to break the barricade and move towards the Assembly Complex shouting slogans demanding implementation of ILP System.
When the police could not control the students, they resorted to baton charge and dispersed the students.
However, the student agitators retaliated by pelting stones at the police personnel.

The police then began to search for students hiding at nearby places and detained five of them for sometime.
SP of Imphal West Jayenta rushed to the spot immediately and made strategies to keep away the student agitators from the Assembly Complex.
In the midst of confrontation between police and students at Khongnang Ani Karak, another herd of students from North AOC side tried to storm the Assembly Complex.
However, they were blocked by the police near LMS Law College.
Later, addressing media persons at AMSU head office, Convenor of Students' Wing M Angamba said that the resolution taken at the State Legislative Assembly cannot be worked out unless all 60 MLAs do not have a strong determination to implement ILP System in the State.
He further said that the State Government has been unable to implement the resolution of State Legislative Assembly on ILP System which was taken on July 13, 2012 last year.
The State government should stop finding reasons for non-implementation of the Assembly resolution.
ILP System cannot be implemented by the State government in such a manner, even if the Assembly takes the resolution for 100 times, Angamba averred.
The Convenor also condemned the highhanded behaviour of the police who resorted to baton charge while dispersing the students.
He further maintained that the students would never back off from the movement and continue to demand the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
