MPP says no to all political party meeting

Imphal, January 27 2019: Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has announced that it will not take part in the all political party scheduled for tomorrow as the Chief Minister and the State Government have failed to provide a concrete stand against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.A sit in protest condemning the passing of the CAB by the Lok Sabha and demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Bill was organised in front of MPP office at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the sit in protest, MPP president Oinam Jugindro said that the MPP is totally against the passing of the CAB in the Lok Sabha on January 8 and the attempt to pass the said Bill in the Rajya Sabha by the Central Government.

Demanding the immediate withdrawal of the said Bill, Jugindro said that the failure of the Chief Minister to say or announce anything to the people in opposition to the Bill, is highly condemnable.

He further conveyed that as the Chief Minister has failed to make a concrete stand against the Bill, MPP will not take part in the all political party which has been scheduled for tomorrow.

It is highly imperative for the Bill to be withdrawn immediately.

If the State and Central Government continue to turn a blind eye, various forms of protest will be launched.

If necessary, pre merger agreement political status will be demanded as well, he cautioned.

Alleging that the NDA Government passed the CAB in the Lok Sabha as a show of power by completely disregarding the interest of the people, Jugindro said that the Central Government's plan is to Hindunize the whole country and MPP will not tolerate such kind of highhandedness.

Questioning who in their right mind will agree to complete Hindunization of the country by wiping out all other religion, the MPP president claimed that the CAB was passed despite strong opposition from the people.

It is a step to eradicate and assimilate the indigenous people and culture of the North East region, Jugindro alleged.

MPP does not buy the empty assurance of the CM that making a few changes or including a clause for the protection of the indigenous people will save the people of Manipur from the negative impacts of the Bill.

He demanded that if the CM sincerely wants to work for the welfare of the people, then he should openly declare his opposition to the Bill.

The CM's stand is not clear till now and MPP will not accept any attempt to take political advantage of the situation by calling an all political party meeting, he added.
