Imphal, February 25 2011:
A rally taken out at Nungba today pressed the government to ensure reaching of PDS and ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) items to the beneficiaries.
The rally was jointly organized by Nungba Area Village Authorities Association, Nungba Area PDS Forum, Nungba Area Women Welfare Organisation, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Nungba area and Indo-Global Social Service Society.
The rally was flagged off from Nungba public ground and converged at the same place after a march in the surroundings of Nungba.
A memorandum was handed over to the SDO, Nungba for onward submission to the CAF& PD minister with copies furnished to the local MLA and Tamenglong DC.
99% of the people living in Nungba area belong to BPL families and due to non-availability of the PDS items they have suffered a lot, said Ashin, secretary Nungba Area Women Welfare Organisation.
She said that out of the quota of 55 quintals of rice under PDS only 47 quintals were received by the PDS agent.
This too after a gap of three to four months, she said urging the government to look into the matter and redress the grievances of the poor people.
She also demanded keeping enough stock of PDS items in the FCS godown at Nungba revealing that the godown remains empty most of the time.
The items to be received for onward supply to children under the ICDS has not been given for the last six months.
With this, the government policy of supplying additional nutrition to children and pregnant women had failed in the area, she added.
