As a part of the Nationwide protest by the All India Trade Union demanding 12 key provisions for the welfare of the scheme workers, the All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur held a protest at Khoiru Leikai Community Hall, Bishnupur district, today .
The All India Trade Union staged a protest near the Parliament from November 9 to 11 demanding the approval of its 12 key points which include a demand for adequate and satisfactory daily minimum wage to the scheme workers .
The Central Government had proposed Rs 10,000 per month against the Rs 18,000 per month demanded by the Union .
Scheme workers included Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, Mid-day meal cooks, VDFs, SSA teachers (contract) etc .
Speaking at the protest, L Sotinkumar, general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur said that the union denounce and condemn the huge difference in the salary of a contract/scheme worker and a regular employee .
He questioned what one can do with a meager Rs 1,000 monthly salary .
He further claimed that the scheme workers in Manipur suffer the most and blamed the State Government for not doing much to improve the conditions of the scheme workers in the State as compared to other States (which have initiated several remedial measures).
He hinted possible intense agitations throughout India if the Centre and the State Government failed to deliver the 12 key demands made by the All India Trade Union .
Kshetrimayum Shanta, secretary CITU, S Nilakanta, president, All India Trade Union Congress, Bishnupur district, L Sanatombi, president, All Manipur Anganwadi Workers' Union, minimum wage earners took part in the protest among others.
