Truck drivers to cease work

All sorts of vehicles would stop plying along the National Highways passing through the State if the State Assembly fails to come up with a definite resolution on formation of Highway Protection Force, All Manipur Transporters and Drivers' Forum has announced.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Y Bhupenchandra, Advisor of the Forum, stated that the life of the truck drivers plying along the National Highways are never safe.
They are not only being subjected to forceful monetary demands of UG groups, but receive similar kind of treatment from the security personnel.
Since the lives of the drivers are always at stake, the Forum has time and again approached the concerned authority for providing enough security.
The proposal for setting up of Highway Protection Force has also been put forward.
But so far, no positive response has been received.
As such, the Forum has decided to launch a cease work strike and stop plying of any sort of vehicles along the National Highways passing through the State, if the current State Assembly session does not come up with a solid resolution on establishing Highway Protection Force in the State, Bhupenchandra stated firmly.
