SF nab UG after encounter, seize arms

A UG was nabbed after a brief exchange of fire with a combined force and a number of arms and ammunitions were recovered which the UGs left behind following a brief exchange of fire yesterday near Nungpakthabi, a village under Sekmai PS.
I/W SSP, L Kailun, in a statement, said that the encounter took place yesterday around 4.30 am at the edge of a forest, just adjacent to Nungpakthabi village where a combined team of Imphal West police commandos and troops of 43 AR conducted raids at some suspected houses.
During the search operation, an encounter took place between a group of armed UGs and the combined force.
The exchange of fire lasted for about 10 minutes, the SSP said adding that the combined force was able to nab one UG while other UGs managed escape.
The UG was later identified as Yumnam Surjit Singh (27) of Motbung Meitei Leikai.
One AK Assault Rifle with two magazines loaded with nine live rounds, 12 empty cartridges of AK ammunition, one M-79 lethode gun marked 40 MM USA, two fired cases of M-79 ammunition, four live rounds of M-79 ammunition, one black bag containing three pairs of camouflage jungle boots, one blank demand letter of KCP(MC) signed by commander in chief, Lamyanba Khuman were recovered by the team.
In another operation, two cadres, one belonging to PREPAK and another to the PLA were also apprehended by the security forces and arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession, the statement further informed.
The PREPAK cadre was nabbed from Kanglatongbi area by a combined team of Imphal West commandos and troops of 43 AR on April 18 around 11.30 am, while the PLA cadre was arrested by police commandos of the same district in a joint operation with troops of 30 AR at Akham Mayai Leikai on April 21 .
A country made pistol with two live rounds, one Chinese made hand grenade were seized from the PREPAK cadre identified as Konsam Anil @ Laksman @ Angamba of Khoyathong Polem Leikai and one 9 mm pistol loaded with six live rounds was recovered from the PLA cadre Longjam Thoithoi of Akham Mayai Leikai, Imphal, the statement added.
