Imphal, September 21 2011:
DGP, Y Joykumar today urged the members of Manipur Chemists and Druggists' Association (MCDA) not to give an incorrect picture to the general public on the availability of life saving drugs in the state and the security arrangement being provided to the transporters along the highway.
Refuting the allegations of MCDA, the DGP in a press release claimed that the Nungba Police has already taken up an FIR about the arson act under FIR No 23(9)11 under section 435/34 IPC.
The press release further stated that the TDC has been working closely with the Manipur Police to ensure safe and smooth operation of trucks on NH 37 and it is the main reason for the successful safe passage of the thousands of trucks ferrying essential commodities during the ongoing economic blockades, it stated.
While condemning the arson act carried out near Nungkao area on September 16, the press release further stated that the incident should not be exploited to create panic and make unreasonable demands.
Apart from the two burnt trucks, 24 other trucks carrying drugs and medicine have safely reached Imphal on the following days, the release added.
