Manipuri Language Day observed

Celebrating the completion of 27 years of Manipuri language since it was first enlisted under the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The Cultural Forum Manipur has observed Manipuri Language Day today at Manipur Hindi Parishad.
President of The Cultural Manipur Professor Huirem Bihari and Language Planning and Implementation Manipur Director Dr Mahavir attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Mahavir highlighted the importance of promoting the Manipuri language.
All Manipur Students' Union also observed the Manipur Language Day at AMSU, Headquarter in DM College campus, Imphal.

The event was graced by Prof Nahakpam Aruna Devi, Dept of Manipuri, MU, Manjit Sarangthem, president, AMSU, Kb.
Ratan, former advisor, AMSU and Irengbam Jamesbond Mangang, former president, AMSU as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, AMSU president, Manjit Sarangthem conveyed that Manipuri language is continuously losing it standard even after its inclusion in 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.
He asserted that even though the language can be opted as an optional subject in the civil services examinations of the UPSC and MPSC, the language is not yet depicted in Indian currency.
The Manipuri language was included in the group of endangered languages according to 2010 report of UNESCO, he said and added that it is quite evident that the language is shrinking with the increasing use and amalgamation of foreign word like "mama, papa and bhabhi", in our day to day conversations.
