Imphal, September 19, 2012:
Stating that the 'Bharat Bandh' to be imposed tomorrow by the NDA is against the anti-people measures of the UPA Government, the State unit of BJP has appealed to all concerned to support the strike.
Addressing a press meet today at its office located at Keishampat, State unit president of the BJP, Sh Shantikumar said the strike is being called to protest the anti-people policies of the UPA Govt.He said amidst several scams including Adarsh Housing, CWG, 2G Spectrum, and Coal Block gripping the Congress led Government at the Centre, the UPA Government hikes the diesel price by Rs 5/litre, reduces subsidised LPG cap to just 6 cylinders to a consumer per year, and allows FDI in retail much against the interest of the public.
Elaborating that the hike in diesel price has immensely affected the agriculture, trade and business, freight and transport sectors, Shantikumar said it caused untold hardship and misery to the common people.
Digging the Cabinet decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail in the country, the BJP leader said the introduction of FDI in retail would directly affect small time traders and businessmen of the country.
He added that the foreign investors would walk away with most of the investment leaving the country poorer.
The BJP is also against the restriction of subsidised LPG cap to six cylinders per consumer a year, said Shantikumar.
He added that the Samaj wadi Party and DMK have also announced to join the strike yesterday.
Stating that major partners of the Congress Party in the UPA Government are expected to withdraw from the UPA following the withdrawal of Trinamool Congress, Shantikumar also did not rule out the possibility of a mid-term poll.
He said a shift in Manipur Government is inevitable in case there is a change in the Centre Government.
