Imphal, June 19 2019:
Results of 740 teachers who appeared in a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) exam have been withheld by NIOS because the covers of their answer sheets were printed with the wrong time by Post Office.
Notably, D.El.Ed has been made compulsory for all teachers teaching at Government, aided and private schools under Section 32(2) of the Right to Education Act.
D.El.Ed exam was held on December 20 last year.
But at two exam centres namely Lao Radiant Higher Secondary School (Senapati district) and Bishnulal High School (Kangpokpi district), covers of answer sheets of two papers collected from these exam centres were printed the wrong time by Post Office.
Around 25,000 teachers appeared in the exam organised by NIOS.
The exam began at 2 pm and concluded at 5 pm .
However, covers of answer sheets of two papers collected from Lao Radiant Higher Secondary School and Bishnulal High School were stamped bearing the time 2.30 pm which implies that the answer sheets were sealed at 2.30 pm .
After receiving these answer sheets, NIOS sent them to its examination committee but the results are still kept withheld, informed a source.
Admitting their mistake, the Post Office has written to the NIOS explaining that the stamps should bear 6.30 pm instead of 2.30 pm .
School Education Department too has written to the NIOS to put to rest all their suspicions.
The Department also sent some officials and talked with NIOS officials, said the source.
A report furnished by the NIOS examination committee has already been sent to the NIOS Chairman but the Chairman has not yet made any statement.
In case the teachers who appeared D.El.Ed exam at the two exam centres are not successful, recognition of their schools would be cancelled if they are working at private schools.
And if they are teaching at Government schools, they would be dismissed from service.
Out of the 25,000 teachers or so who appeared the same exam, around 800 are Government teachers while private school teachers constitute over 22,000, added the source.
