Imphal, February 19 2020:
Demanding immediate implementation of Manipur Private Schools (Registration and Regulation) Act 2017, a sit-in protest was staged by AMSU at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall today while a slogan rally was taken out on the streets.
AMSU president Peter Laishram, while speaking to reporters, said that the number of private schools are growing rapidly in the State but the lack of necessary guidelines in private schools have hindered the quality of education.
As such, the students gets less exposed to extracurricular activities which in turn impacts their overall development.
The Manipur Private Schools (Registration and Regulation) Act 2017 was formed to set the rules and guidelines, among other aspects, of private schools in the State, he said.
However, the Act has not been implemented till date.
Saying the there have been instances where the absence of principles and guidelines at hostel and boardings has affected students emotionally and psychologically, Peter demanded that the State Government should come up with necessary rules and regulations for hostel/boardings as well.
