Total curfew: Minister justifies, CPI demands edibles to poor

While conceding that the government alone cannot fight COVID-19, CAF & PD minister and Joint Committee of Public Awareness on COVID-19 convener Th Satyabrata has appealed to people of the state to take a firm stand to fight the pandemic collectively.
Minister Satyabrata is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals after contracting COVID-19 .
In a video message, Satyabrata said that the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has made the entire people of the state suffer but this could be overcome if people take utmost precaution and strictly follow the government issued SOPs.
According to the minister, government fought the first wave successfully with the support of the people but there seems to be lack of support from the people in the second wave though government is taking up various steps to overcome it.
The pandemic getting worse in the state with more than 10 fatalities reported daily and positive cases crossing the 1000-mark, he noted, while adding that the government decided to impose certain strict measures to break the current trend of fatality and infection and accordingly imposed the total curfew for 10 days.
He also appealed to the people to extend support to the preventive measures taken up by the government and urged political parties not to take political mileage amidst the pandemic.
While extending support to the 10-day total curfew imposed by the government as a means to break the current trend of high COVID-19 positive cases and fatality rate, Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur state council has appealed to chief minister N Biren Singh to start delivery of rice at the doorstep of every house as promised while announcing the strict containment measures.
The strict measures taken up by the government will severely affect the people particularly those belonging to economically weak families, a statement of CPI Manipur state council said and appealed to government not to torture poor people under the pretext of imposing the curfew to contain the pandemic.
It also said that CPI state unit supports total curfew but at the same time government should start distributing rice at the doorstep of every house as assured by the chief minister as people have to remain indoor.
Meanwhile, extending full support to the total curfew for 10 days announced by chief minister N Biren Singh to save lives of the people from COVID-19, Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) said that the decision taken by the chief minister was right and people should extend support to the curfew.
According to a statement of UAL, people of Uripok will extend full support to the total curfew and help police department in enforcing the curfew.
