A sit in protest was staged by women vendors of Tampha Bazar , Yairipok today condemning the act of Yairipok Municipal Chairperson for permitting only license holders to open shops at the Bazar, for allegedly harassing a women vendor and for not constructing a proper toilet for the vendors .
Speaking to media persons, one of the women vendors stated that Tampha Bazar is presently half empty and the Chairperson has allegedly warned the roadside vendors not to continue its business .
She further stated that the MLA of Wangkhem AC has earlier notified the Yairipok Municipal Council to allow the new women vendors to hold license and sit inside the shed, however, the Chairperson has done the opposite .
Meanwhile, the lack of proper toilet in the Bazar has created several complications for the women vendors, she added .
Condemning the alleged harassment by the Chairman tone of the vendors, the women shouted many slogans demanding the Chairperson to resign his post .
Later, a committee of 20 people was formed in a meeting held after the protest and the office bearers were also elected including Promo as president, Shandhyarani A vice president and Mala as secretary among others.
The committe resolved to address the igrievances of the vendors to the authority concerned to bring an amicable solution at the earliest.
