Fissure over ATSUM revival deepens

Imphal, November 12 2012: The pandemonium over the revival of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) continues.

On Monday, the newly elected ATSUM general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang condemned and warned Emboi Serto, "the self-style care taker" of ATSUM for convening the meeting on November 13 .

According to Vareiyo Shatsang, general secretary of ATSUM, after expiring the tenure of the ATSUM in the last part of 2011, the election commission (students' instituted cmomission) was set up to conduct the election of ATSUM.

"However, due to different opinions among the tribal groups the election commission could not conduct the election.

Therefore, the house extended the care-taker's tenure and under his care-takership of ATSUM, the search committee was set up again.

But unfortunately this search committee also failed again because of the difference opinions.

Finally, the last ATSUM assembly under the care-takership of ATSUM was held again on April 5, 2012 at Hotel Tampha, Imphal," stated Vareiyo Shatsang.

The ATSUM general secretary then said the assembly endorsed the five hill district students' organisations to work out for the formation of ATSUM for the tenure 2012-2014 .

Accordingly, the five hill district students organisations meeting was convened on April 19, 2012, at the office of Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM).

"The house after long deliberation, resolved to accommodate/allocate the district wise.

The same resolution was referred to the care-taker for necessary action but he failed to take up any initiative the resolution forwarded to him.

Since, he failed to take up any initiative the second round of five hill district students organisations selected the three key post and forwarded the resolution to the care-taker for necessary action to take up oath taking and secrecy ceremony on or before November 2, 2012.But there is no respond from the care-takership.

Therefore as per of federating unit resolution No.4 of November 5, 2012, the convenor of the federating unit took up the oath of secrecy in the capacity of the convenor on November 2, at 2 pm," the ATSUM general secretary narrated.

The meeting notice of November 12, convent by Mr Emboi Serto in null and void.

The ATSUM is officially formed on November 12, 2012, and there is no such care-taker at all.

Any incident happening in the future days will be solely responsible by Mr Emboi Serto the self-style care-taker of ATSUM, Vareiyo Shatsang stated.
