Imphal, February 11 2013:
With a number of truck drivers and handymen of the State being tortured to death and many others remaining traceless while plying along Imphal-Dimapur road, veteran politician O Joy has termed the supposed peace talks between the Government of India and the Naga rebel group, NSCN (IM) as a graveyard for the Manipuri drivers and handymen.
Speaking to media persons here today, O Joy stated that the attitude of killing and torturing Manipuri truck drivers and handymen plying along Imphal-Dimapur road is very unfortunate.
He asserted that the recent killing of a Manipuri truck driver at Kohima does not seem to have related to any motive of stealing the sugar bags being carried in the truck.
So, the Nagaland Government should find out the culprits to understand the real motive behind the killing.
At the same time, the Government of Manipur should take up steps to bring justice to the victim.
O Joy further asserted that the demands for re-drawing the boundary line of some particular communities in a secular country like India is against the Constitution and so highly condemnable.
O Joy denounced the statement of the Union Home Minister who reportedly asked the delegates of All Political Party to identify the whereabouts of Livingstone so that he could be arrested as nothing but a statement showing contempt by derision.
Furthermore, O Joy observed that the proclamation of Home Minister Gaikhangam that he had no knowledge over institution or abolition of Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) of Imphal est ditrict as an irresponsible remark from a leader of a State.
Instead of abolishing SIU, it should have been given more power to strengthen its operations, he maintained.
