Imphal, December 08 2016:
AMSU District Committee, Jiribam and Jiri Development Organisation have said that the economic blockades imposed by the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) and United Naga Council (UNC) on the National Highways, particularly the Imphal Jiribam National Highway, have caused enough hardships to the people of Jiribam.
Speaking to media persons at the office of AMSU District Committee, its president Y Sanjib Singh and president of JDO Hemanta Motum pointed out that the economic blockades have caused much suffering to the people and blamed the current prevailing situation on the ineffectiveness of the Manipur Government.
Hemanta accused the State Government of failing its duty saying that things would not have turned out like this if it had tried to settle the matter in a diplomatic manner.
"The Government should not turn a blind eye to the sufferings of the people and if the situation is left unchecked, the end result will not be good", he said.
Pointing to the selfish and one sided demand, Y Sanjib urged the UNC to stop the blockade at the earliest and to come up with a demand which is acceptable by all the communities of the State.
He further urged the UNC to stop spreading poisonous propaganda to the ignorant people just for their one sided demand.
"What is the political motive or the reason behind the Centre and State Government keeping mum on the situation even now ?", he asked.
