Imphal, December 07 2018:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya has expressed disappointment that not even 10 days of employment can be provided to the poor people of the villages and remote areas of the State under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranteed Scheme (MGNREGS) which is aimed at providing 100 days of employment in a year to the villagers.
He made the statement during the inauguration of a community hall at Kwakeithel Konjeng Mayai Leikai under Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC today.
He claimed that when MGNREGS was introduced in Manipur, at least 70 to 80 days of employment were provided to the people but today, the number of days is even less than 10 .
He explained that even if the criteria of 100 days as mentioned in the scheme is not met, the State, Government can avail unemployment allowance by providing detailed report to the Central Government.
The reason behind the inability to take this said allowance will be known only by the State Government, he added.
On the other hand, ex MLA RK Anand said that when he became the MLA, the infrastructure of the AC was deplorable and the Local Area Development Fund was not much as well.
However, with time, the LADF amount increased and the area began developing properly, he added explaining that the current MLA is really lucky as the LADF amount is Rs 2 crore and if the said fund is properly utilised, then the AC can be developed immensely.
He then condemned the destruction of community halls and Keithels located on the banks of Nambul river in the name of river bed cleaning works and added that the said act seems to be specifically targeted at establishments which were constructed by the past Government.
On the other hand, RK Anand expressed desire for reaffirmation of a collective stand against any harm to the integrity of the State and joint condemnation of the 123rd report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, during the winter Assembly session.
The community hall inaugurated today was reported built under the LADF of RK Anand and MDS and the RCC flooring of the hall was done under the LADF of Dr T Meinya.
Imphal West Zilla Parishad Adhakshya RK (o) Taruni, Sangaiprou Ma'mang Gram Panchayat Pradhan Konjengbam Jayenta, Ward Member Wangkhem (o) Santi and Imphal West II Block Congress Committee president Nameirakpam Nimai also attended the event as the presidium members.
