Imphal, January 07 2015:
The State Government has allegedly left TB patients in the lurch as they are forced to shift to the new TB hospital at Keirao Wangkhem, which does not have necessary infrastructure, equipment and medical staff.
According to one Naorem Indrakumar, whose mother has been undergoing treatment at TB hospital, Chingmeirong a police team directed the 13 patients of the hospital to shift to the newly constructed hospital at Keirao Wangkhem by January 5 .
However, only three patients shifted to the newly constructed medical facility at Keirao Wangkhem while the remaining patients returned to their houses as they did not want to stay at the new hospital, Indrakumar added.
However, after reaching Keirao Wanghem, they found the medical facility pathetic, he added.
As construction of the said hospital is yet to be completed, patients and their families are accommodated in a small building which has seven beds, he said and added that this building does not have water and electricity.
They also have to use clogged toilets and the floor is too dusty, he added.
Moreover, dirty and old beds, bed sheets and mattresses, brought from the old TB hospital, Chingmeirong, are still provided to the patients in the new hospital, he said and added that there is no adequate medical staff to look after the patients.
Considering all these pathetic conditions, it is not likely that the patients would recover if they stay there, he added.
