Livestock distributed to BPL farmers

Foundation for Environment and Economic Development Services (FEEDS), under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council and assistance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Hengbung, has distributed livestock - fry, ducklings, piglets etc to 500 selected beneficiaries below poverty line today.
The livestock distribution function was held at KVK Hengbung campus under the programme "Animal Husbandry Based Micro Enterprises for Self Employment of BPL Tribal Women and Youth".
Speaking at the event, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Hengbung Dr N Jyotsana said that the programme was launched in Willing, Senapati and Kangchup-Geljang, Kangpokpi and Saitu Block in 2017.The 500 farmers given the livestock today are from Senapati and Kangpokpi districts.
The programme encourages integrated farming system for more productivity, said Jyotsana.
The livestock were distributed after making all necessary arrangement for their rearing including making of pen and poultry houses.
The beneficiaries were also provided required training, added Jyotsana.
Senapati DC Somorjit Salam also encouraged the farmers to adopt integrated farming and increase their income generation.
Traditional farming is not enough nowadays to meet the rising needs of families, he said while urging farmers to adopt new technique and rear livestock which may also increase their agricultural yield.
TP Cell Executive Engineer N Ibomcha and other officials also attended the event.
