Charge-sheet framed against two accused

Charge sheet has been filed in the court of Imphal East Judicial Magistrate by the police against two accused persons out of three arrested in connection with the incident of alleged molestation of a tribal girl at Napetpalli in the evening of Dec 24 last year.
The victim was on her way to native Risophung village in Senapati district to attend Christmas celebration along with six local brothers and six local sisters when the incident took place.
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, police have framed chargesheet against the accused duo identified as Ngangom Chandrajit Meetei (19), s/o late Ng Prem of Napet Pali Mamang Leikai and Tensubam Amitkumar Meetei (21), s/o T Lamphel of Napet Pali and submitted the same to the court of Imphal East Judicial Magistrate for taking up necessary legal proceedings.
In all 13 of them were going to Risophung village on foot from Khuman Lampak as there was a bandh in force, when three persons, who identified themselves as members of banned outfit KCP (City Meetei) group, waylaid them at Napetpalli around 6:30 pm and looted them of their money, mobile phones and Ipod apart from trying to molest one of the girls in the group.
In connection with the incident, a complaint was made to the OC of Lamlai Police Station.
Accordingly, the Lamlai Police registered an FIR case for necessary investigation under IPC Section 384, 354, 324, 24, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act Section 20, Schedule caste and Schedule tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
During the course of the investigation, police pulled up three persons and recovered 6 mobile phones along with an iPod from them.
The arrested trio was also produced in the court on December 26, 2012 and remanded them to police custody for 7 days.
But further investigation into the case led the police to come to the conclusion, out of the arrested trio, two of them were actually involved in the incident.
Accordingly, the charge sheet has been framed against Ngangom Chandrajit Meetei and Tensubam Amitkumar Meetei and submitted the same in the court of Imphal East Judicial Magistrate for taking up necessary legal proceedings.
Reports further disclosed that since the victim girl is a minor in the age group of 14 to 16 years, she has been declared as a juvenile in conflict with law.
As such, the chargesheet has also been submitted to Juvenile Justice Board of Imphal West District for conducting the trial under various Sections of IPC, SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection from Sexual Offences.
