Imphal, October 01 2012:
COUPLED WITH insufficient staffs and doctors, the crippling infrastructural facilities in Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kangpokpi has become a cause of anger for the people of the area for quite some time now.
With no separate wards for children, women and men, all the patients, whichever purpose they have been admitted in the CHC, are seen treated together.
The situation is causing even more embarrassment to all when it comes to treatment related to Gynae problems, as no separate ward is available in the health centre.
The functioning of the CHC is so pathetic that even doctors and nurses on night duty have to stay in a single room.
All the treatment rooms available in the health centre are also in ruins.
The most disgusting part is that there is only one toilet in the PHC, where both male and female have to wait for their turn to respond to the call of the nature.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of a sit-in-protest demonstration staged against the awful condition of the CHC at Kangpokpi today, Dr Kamsot Khongsai, MO in-charge of the CHC informed that there should be at least 12 doctors in the CHC.
However, at present, there are only four doctors.
In the absence of eight doctors, only four doctors are discharging duties round the clock.
He also expressed regret over absence of different treatment rooms in the CHC.
Dr Kamsot Khongsai pointed out the need to build ante-natal, post-natal and maternity wards in the PHC and stated that a District Aids Officer should be posted in the CHC.
He also expressed the need for increasing the strength of nurses and other staffs including chowkidars and helpers as well as the need to erect fencing around the boundary of the CHC along with deployment of security personnel.
All the staffs and members of Kangpokpi Youth Union and Women Welfare Organisation also participated in the protest demonstration.
